A highlight of the day is the visit to Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient Kasbah (fortified village) that has been the backdrop for many famous movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Walking through the narrow alleys of this UNESCO-listed site offers a glimpse into Morocco’s rich history and architecture.
Exploring Ouarzazate and Dades Valley
Next, we proceed to Ouarzazate, often called the Gateway to the Desert. Here, we visit the Taourirt Kasbah and, if time permits, the Atlas Film Studios, where many Hollywood blockbusters were filmed. Continuing our journey, we pass through the picturesque Valley of Roses before reaching Dades Valley, where we stay overnight in a charming hotel or riad, enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner.
After breakfast, we drive towards Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most spectacular canyons. Towering cliffs, reaching heights of up to 300 meters, create a dramatic and breathtaking landscape. Here, we take a short hike to admire the stunning rock formations and interact with local Berber nomads.
Journey to Merzouga – Gateway to the Sahara

Leaving Rissani, we journey through the Draa Valley, home to the longest river in Morocco. The valley is adorned with palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and charming Berber villages. We make stops along the way to appreciate the stunning landscapes before arriving back in Ouarzazate, where we spend the night.
After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Marrakech. We traverse the Atlas Mountains once again, taking time to stop for panoramic views and a visit to an Argan oil cooperative, where we learn about the production of this precious Moroccan oil.
