Embark on a breathtaking 5-day tour from Marrakech to Fes, where you will discover the magic of Morocco, from bustling cities to tranquil desert landscapes. This immersive experience will take you through ancient kasbahs, golden dunes, and vibrant marketplaces. Let’s dive into this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
We begin our Moroccan adventure by departing from Marrakech in the early morning, driving through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). This scenic drive offers breathtaking views of winding roads, traditional Berber villages, and panoramic landscapes.
Our first major stop is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, a stunning ksar (fortified village) that has been featured in numerous films and TV shows, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. We take time to explore the narrow alleys and admire the unique mud-brick architecture.
After a relaxing lunch, we continue towards Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” home to famous film studios and the grand Taourirt Kasbah. We then proceed through the scenic Valley of Roses, famous for its annual rose festival, before reaching the stunning Dades Valley, where we settle in for the night at a traditional riad or kasbah.
After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, we head towards Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural sights. The towering rock walls reach up to 300 meters, making it a paradise for climbers and nature lovers alike. We take time to explore the gorge, walk along the river, and capture incredible photos.
Next, we journey towards Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Along the way, we pass through palm groves, Berber villages, and the town of Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops. Upon arrival in Merzouga, we prepare for a camel trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.
As the sun sets over the desert, we arrive at our luxurious desert camp, where we enjoy traditional Berber music, delicious tagine, and a night under the star-filled sky in a cozy desert tent.
We start the day early with an unforgettable sunrise over the dunes, a truly magical experience. After breakfast, we embark on an exciting 4×4 desert tour, exploring the surrounding areas of Erg Chebbi. We visit Khamlia village, home to the Gnawa people, where we enjoy a live performance of their unique spiritual music.
Our journey continues as we visit nomadic Berber families, learning about their traditional way of life. We explore ancient fossil beds, vast desert landscapes, and the seasonal lake of Dayet Srij, which attracts migratory birds such as flamingos.
After a day of adventure, we return to our desert camp or a comfortable riad in Merzouga for a well-deserved rest.
We bid farewell to the Sahara Desert and begin our journey towards Fes. Our first stop is the Ziz Valley, an oasis filled with lush palm trees and ancient ksour (fortified villages). We then drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through the town of Midelt, where we pause for lunch.
Continuing our drive, we pass through Cedar Forests, home to the famous Barbary macaques. We stop in Ifrane, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” due to its alpine-style architecture and cool climate.
After a day of scenic travel, we reach our accommodation in or near Ifrane, where we relax before the final leg of our journey.
On our final day, we complete our journey towards Fes, one of Morocco’s most enchanting cities. Fes is known for its rich history, medieval medina, and cultural significance.
Upon arrival, we explore some of the city’s highlights, including:
Al-Qarawiyyin University – The world’s oldest university, founded in 859 AD.
Bou Inania Madrasa – A beautifully preserved Islamic school with intricate tilework.
Chouara Tannery – One of the oldest and most famous tanneries in Morocco.
